At Castello’s Pizza, we talk a lot about family, community, and taking care of each other. Most days, that happens over a hot pizza, a plate of pasta, or a

laugh shared across the table.

Today, we want to talk about another kind of care—one that begins right here in our own backyard, through the incredible work of Shepherd’s Hope and our dear friend and “biggest celebrity,” Dr. William S. Barnes.

Who Is Shepherd’s Hope, and why Supporting Shepherd’s Hope?

Shepherd’s Hope is a non-profit health organization based in Winter Garden that provides free, quality medical care to uninsured men, women, and children across Central Florida. Since opening its first health center in 1997, Shepherd’s Hope has provided more than 350,000 free medical visits and patient services to neighbors who otherwise would go without care. shepherdshope.org

Their patients have incomes at or below 300% of the federal poverty level, are uninsured, and are not eligible for government-assisted health programs—meaning Shepherd’s Hope is often their only path to seeing a doctor, receiving specialty care, or getting important exams and tests done. shepherdshope.org

From back-to-school physicals for kids, to urgent medical visits, to wellness and follow-up care, Shepherd’s Hope is quietly doing heroic work for the people we live and work beside every day.

The Heart Behind It: Dr. William Barnes

Many of you know Dr. William S. Barnes not only as a respected leader in our community, but also as one of our most cherished guests at Castello’s—our “biggest celebrity.”

Back in 1996, while on a walk on the beach, Dr. Barnes felt called to do something for individuals and families with no access to medical care. He followed that calling, shared the vision with his church, and in February 1997 the first Shepherd’s Hope health center opened its doors with a staff of volunteers. shepherdshope.org

Nearly three decades later, that one act of faith and compassion has grown into multiple health centers across Central Florida, powered by volunteer doctors, nurses, and community partners who believe that everyone deserves dignity, hope, and health care—regardless of their financial situation. shepherdshope.org

We’re proud that Dr. Barnes is not just a name in our community, but a real friend and guest of Castello’s. When he sits down at our table, he reminds us what it truly means to serve.

Why We’re Asking You to Join This Mission

Right now, Shepherd’s Hope is working hard to raise funds to better serve those in need—to keep their health centers open, expand services, and reach even more families who are struggling to access basic healthcare.

Every single day, there are people in our community who:

• Delay going to the doctor because they can’t afford it

• Live with pain or untreated conditions because they have nowhere to go

Shepherd’s Hope steps into that gap—and they do it at no cost to the patient.

But free care is never truly “free.” It depends on the generosity of people like us—local families, small businesses, and neighbors who care about more than just our own four walls.
